Write about a contemporary instance of an “ultrarapid form of free-floating control.” Think about codes, pharmaceuticals, genetic engineering, contests, and highly comic group sessions, financialization, the corporation. Think about the system under which we live but also the manner of living and our relations with others. Taking off from a particular point in Deleuze’s theory, allow yourself to be caught in the sci-fi vibe of the essay, but also aim for specificity in elaborating a particular technique of control. Think about the world of design as a scene of control. You could write in a narrative mode, imagining a possible world or something more expository and focused on an analysis of something contemporary, or both.
for discussion:
What is the difference between disciplinary society and the society of control?
If we live today in a society of control, what can we do about it? What new weapons can we find?
